I started this project last year when a client reached out to me for help with her postpartum depression. You can read more about the project beginnings here. I plan to share three stories every month or so as an ongoing journey throughout this year, and I look forward to watching the project evolve.
I am so happy that this day has come. We are ready to share the first three stories and the images that make up this collaborative effort. By sharing the experiences of these brave mothers, we are filling a great, wide gap that exists in women’s health. The communities and small-scale support systems that once held generations of women together—through adolescence, child rearing, and old age—are disappearing from our culture. It’s time to bring them back.
Being a part of something bigger than myself, existing first as a listener and then as a storyteller, has been an enormous honor. Some days I can’t bear the weight of it, and then I think about what these women have been through. I realize that this project, these stories, these images are gifts that need to be shared. So here we are, in our nonjudgmental spaces, sharing and listening, in support of one another through motherhood. Welcome to Partum Me.
